Invisibles e insumisas / Invisíveis e insubmissas: Leading Women in Portuguese and Spanish Cinema and Television,1970-1980 is a five-year research project exploring women’s roles in the audiovisual industries of Portugal and Spain in the critical decade of political change: the 1970s.
It combines new archival research with oral history to reveal and analyse the invisible leadership of women in ‘below-the-line’ roles such editing, costume design and production management. It thereby transforms our understanding of creativity in cinema and television of this period, as well as bringing the cases of Spain and Portugal into wider transnational histories of feminism and film.
